Come home to who you are with therapy that realigns and heals.
Hi, I’m Sarah.
I’m a somatic psychotherapist in Austin, Texas.
As an EMDR Certified Therapist with a specialty in Polyvagal Theory, I primarily treat the nervous system. Dysfunction in the nervous system significantly contributes to all mental health disorders. When the nervous system heals, you begin to feel better. I have experienced, both personally and professionally, the limitations of talk therapy. While talk therapy can be extremely helpful and a critical part of the therapeutic process, it can be disappointing when it’s offered as the main therapeutic modality. Talk therapy can often make people experience a plateau in their progress, accompanied by a “now what?” feeling. Integrating what you rationally know to be true into your somatic experience, or your body’s felt sense, is what makes the difference between gaining understanding about pain and suffering vs. actually feeling relief from pain and suffering.
I help my clients work on personal development, relationships, limiting beliefs, black-and-white thinking, judgments, self-compassion, shame, and mood disorders like anxiety and depression. (See my Areas of Specialty for more info on how I might help you).
Most of all, I help clients integrate all fragmented and disowned parts of themselves to find a deeper sense of peace.
Together we’ll work towards
self-compassion.
Through self-compassion, you’ll learn to trust yourself, heal from the past, live in the present moment, establish boundaries, and tap into your own innate wisdom to create a life free from suffering.
My therapeutic style
In session, I create a non-judgmental, emotionally safe space where you can feel seen and understood. I also kindly challenge you when necessary.
I believe in treating the whole person - not just the brain, but what occurs in the body. Consequently, I use a variety of therapeutic approaches, theories, and interventions such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), interventions based on Polyvagal Theory, attachment based interventions, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. My work as a yoga instructor also helps me use somatic-based therapeutic techniques such as the Trauma Conscious Yoga Method (TCYM) and mindfulness.
Your feeling of safety and acceptance is my priority. Once we establish a trusting therapeutic relationship, you’ll notice the profound effects of self-compassion and understanding ripple throughout your life.
Let’s get started.
